As more and more pharma companies switch to paperless communication processes, there is an exponential increase in the amount of paper that is generated.

Pharmaceutical companies have long been criticized for their overuse of resources in the production of medicines. With 4,000 tons of surplus pharmaceuticals created annually, the pharmaceutical industry is poised to take a step in the right direction by implementing a pill shredding machine. Pharmaceutical shredding machines will allow for 86% less hazardous waste, which is equivalent to 600 tons. This reduction is accomplished by turning all unused pills into powder before disposal.

In this era of single use plastics, a new machine is being designed to eliminate a majority of the waste produced by pharmaceutical packaging. The Pharma Shredder was created by a company called SASCO, and it is capable of reducing the size of these packages from 8x8x16 inches to just 4x4x8 inches. These smaller pieces can be more easily recycled which will help do our part in limiting plastic pollution.
